What is RFID?
RFID stands for Radio Frequency Identification, it is a means to automatically identify items. It consists of a tag placed on the item of interest which communicates with an RFID Reader - an antenna, attached to the reader, is used for this communication.
What is Passive RFID?
It is a type of RFID tag which does not use any batteries to communicate with the reader.
What is Active RFID?
(Also known as battery assisted smart tag) It is a type of RFID tag which is first "awakened" by the reader, then it uses a battery to communicate with the reader.
What is Semi-active RFID?
(Also known as battery assisted smart tag) It is a type of RFID tag which is first "awakened" by the reader, then it uses a battery to communicate with the reader.
What frequency do you use?
PINC Tags are C1/G2 (Class 1/Generation 2) tags which has been standardized to operate in the UHF frequency range (905-925 MHz).
What is RTLS?
RTLS stands for Real-Time Location System - it takes identification to the next level by not only identifying an object but also pinpointing its location in real time.
What is WiFi?
Short for Wireless Fidelity, it is used to define wireless communication between a computer and an "access point" or hot spot. The computer can then communicate with other computers on the corporate network or the internet. The most recent standard for this communication is 802.11g in the 2.4 GHz frequency.
What is YMS?
Yard Management System, a software system which is used to optimize yard operations. Without YARD HOUND™, YMS solutions rely on manual input of data and assume correct execution of orders.
What is WMS?
Warehouse Management System, a software system which is used to optimize operations in the warehouse.
What is TMS?
Transportation Management System, a software system used to optimize truck routes.
What is the difference between knowing the item Location and Presence?
Presence is knowing whether an item is within an area - such as a warehouse. Chokepoints are required to monitor items entering and leaving the area. Location is knowing the actual position of the item (parking spot, row, shelf, etc.). PINC's technology eliminates the need to have numerous choke points to achieve location information.
What is a choke point?
Choke point is an RFID reader placed such that tagged items entering and exiting will be read - this assists in inventory management.

How big is the PINC Tag?
The PINC tag is an all-weather enclosure measuring 6 ″×4.5″×1″.
Where do you install the PINC Tag?
The tag in installed in the front right corner of each trailer.
How is the PINC tag installed?
There are two installation choices for the tag: permanently where the tag is fastened to the trailer by screws and nuts, or temporarily where the tag is attached to the trailer by a strong magnet. The temporary tags are placed by the gate guard as the trailer enters the facility and are removed by the guard upon exit. Aluminum trailers do not pose a problem for this procedure.
What is inside the PINC Tag?
Only a passive RFID tag.
How long does installation of the tag take?
Temporary installation takes a few seconds, permanent installation a few minutes.

How big is the PINC Tracking Unit?
The PINC Tracking Unit measures 14″×9″×5″
Where do you install the Tracking Unit?
The PINC Tracking Unit is installed inside the driver's cab of the yard truck.
What is inside the Tracking Unit?
The tracking unit contains industry standard RFID reader, a GPS unit, other sensors, processors, data storage, and communication links. The tracking unit is powered by the yard truck.
How long does installation of the PTU take?
The tracking unit is installed in only a few hours.
What if a hardware component fails?
PINC Solutions has a warranty program and a support organization to make sure our customers are satisfied with the hardware and software performance of our solution.

Where is the software for PINC running?
PINC software is divided into many components, parts of the collection component run as an embedded software in Tracking Unit. The other components run in the PINC server. When the application is hosted, PINC server is located at PINC; otherwise, the server can be located on the corporate IT.
How fast is the ROI?
Typically, less than one year.
Do I need a blanket WiFi coverage?
No, occasional coverage is sufficient. PINC Tracking Unit (PTU) includes sufficient buffer space to store the data locally. When the PTU is inside a WiFi-covered zone, the data is then downloaded to the PINC Server.
Does your system work in all types of weather?
Yes, all components are enclosed for an all-weather operation.
